knowledge

Information economy, knowledge society, the role of knowledge in education and social advancement, mastery of tools, access to knowledge, new forms of understanding: these key elements draw in broad strokes the complex world of knowledge into which we are entering.

We are focused on three aspects in particular:

  • the impact of knowledge on economic and societal systems;

  • the management of organizations based on knowledge;

  • the opening of new fields of knowledge related to cognition.

knowledge-based economy and society

The passage from the term "human resources" to "human capital" reflects the importance that is now attached to the person whose capital lies in his knowledge (and how he uses it) and in the ability to produce new and improved knowledge. Information, including strategic intelligence, knowledge management, and information economy, and innovation are central to this discussion.

quaternary management

A forth sector, the quaternary, has been added to the three traditional sectors of the economy (primary, secondary, and tertiary). Knowledge is its raw material. With no fixed assets, the quaternary company can free itself from its walls and engage in new operational modes. The quaternary organization may be commercial or voluntary (NGO, freeware), or private or public (research centers, educational institutions, think tanks, etc..). They may be represented as poles of excellence (clusters) bringing together businesses, universities and research centers. Innovation is the driving force.

cognition

Very little is known about how our brain works. How does it remember? How does it invent? How do we fight cognitive degeneration? The study of cognitive mechanisms will change how we do things, how we learn, eat and sleep. Ironically the most important of our vital mechanisms is also our most unknown and neglected.
